Rule #4 DON’T COMPARE - From 7 Rules Of Life

DON’T COMPARE - The only person you need to compete with is the person you were yesterday.

There are numerous resources for learning about how to better yourself and we should always be striving for improvement, but comparing ourselves to others is a trap that we don’t want to fall into. Comparing yourself to others puts your focus on them when you could be focusing on developing a better you.

Here are 3 things to focus on for improvements rather than comparisons:

1. BE YOU - Your character, personality and creativity are unique. When you compare yourself to others, you diminish the things that make you special and depreciate your qualities. When you are looking at someone else’s life, you normally only see their results, not their efforts. You can’t compare the ‘behind the scenes view’ of your life with someone else’s highlight reel.

2. LIFE IS NOT A COMPETITION - You should enjoy life rather than worry about keeping up with others. Life is not a game to win, it’s a journey to savor.

“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” - Unknown

3. BE GRATEFUL - It’s vitally important to think about what you DO have, rather than what you DON’T have. Gratefulness will draw your focus to your blessings and your successes. Being grateful will remind you of your support system, your strengths and your abilities. When you choose gratefulness, your mind has no room for negativity.

Don't spend all of your time wishing you were in a different garden.

“Bloom where you are planted.”
- Dr. Robert Schuller

If there’s one thing you can choose to be today - Be grateful.
